DoorDash is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the Unified Privacy Platform team. You will oversee a team of backend and platform engineers responsible for developing the next generation of privacy and consent infrastructure.
Team Overview
The Unified Privacy Platform team's mission is to ensure the trust of every DoorDash user by upholding their right to privacy, consent, and transparency. The team focuses on three main areas: the Privacy Center, a unified user-facing destination for privacy controls and rights; the Unified Privacy Platform, which manages consent, policy, and jurisdictional requirements; and Privacy Operations and Intelligence, which provides workflows, diagnostics, and automation for privacy-related tasks.
Responsibilities
As the Engineering Manager, you will:
- Lead and mentor a high-performing team of backend and platform engineers.
- Drive the technical strategy across the Privacy Center, Unified Privacy Platform, and Privacy Operations and Intelligence.
- Develop the cross-brand User Consent Platform, including consent state management, policy configuration, and enforcement.
- Create simple, self-service experiences for users to manage their consent and communication preferences.
- Translate emerging privacy and regulatory requirements into standardized platform capabilities.
- Lead the migration from legacy consent systems to a unified platform across DoorDash, Wolt, and Deliveroo.
- Define clear contracts with data governance systems and downstream product teams.
- Provide architectural guidance for distributed systems managing sensitive user data.
- Partner with recruiting to build a diverse and inclusive team.
Requirements
- Bachelor's, master's, or doctoral degree in Computer Science or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in people management leading backend or platform teams.
- 8+ years of industry experience.
- Extensive experience as an engineer or engineering leader in a fast-paced, platform-focused development environment.
- Proven experience designing large-scale distributed systems, APIs, policy engines, workflow orchestration, or audit architectures.
- Preferred experience with privacy, consent, data governance, or regulatory systems, including GDPR, CCPA, CPRA, and data subject rights.
- Ability to translate ambiguous legal, policy, and product requirements into clear platform boundaries and executable roadmaps.
- Strong product sense and ability to partner with cross-functional teams.
- Growth mindset with eagerness to expand skills and build enduring systems.
