Description
We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the Transactional Storage Services team within Airbnb's Online Data organization. The team designs, builds, and operates a new source-of-truth, open-source NewSQL database running on stateful Kubernetes.
The role involves working on either the Database Kernel team, which focuses on performance, reliability, and stability for Airbnb's NewSQL engine, or the Database Adoption team, which builds infrastructure for moving data workloads onto NewSQL.
Responsibilities include:
- Deep technical investigation of database internals and SQL latency and availability issues
- Collaborating with the open-source database vendor on root cause analysis and upstream contributions
- Designing and implementing traffic prioritization at the storage layer for connection pooling
- Validating and safely rolling out a new CDC architecture while guaranteeing full transactional correctness across shards
- Building frameworks and tooling around the NewSQL database, including monitoring, observability, permissions, and service discovery integration
Requirements:
- 5+ years building and operating large-scale distributed systems
- Hands-on experience with database or storage internals
- Ability to own and dive deeply into a complex codebase
- Experience maintaining, analyzing, and debugging high-severity production incidents
- Strong collaboration and communication skills in a remote working environment
We offer a salary range of $196,000-$230,000 USD, as well as bonus, equity, benefits, and Employee Travel Credits.
