Staff Engineer, Platform

Job Overview

As a Staff Engineer, Platform at Flexport, you will be responsible for evolving the developer platform that powers Flexport engineering. You will talk to engineers, dogfood the platform, and find areas of friction to improve.

Responsibilities

• Own and evolve the developer platform, focusing on making it efficient and user-friendly.
• Design and implement CI/CD pipelines using Buildkit, Github Actions, and other tools.
• Support developers with build tooling, artifact repositories, and backend and frontend developer experience.
• Steward the GraphQL and gRPC ecosystem, ensuring smooth operation.
• Evolve and integrate IAM solutions for secure and easy access.
• Improve container orchestration and observability stacks.
• Conduct user research with developers to inform platform improvements.
• Collaborate with product teams to align and ship impactful changes.

Requirements

• 10+ years of software engineering experience, particularly in building developer platforms or core infrastructure.
• Full-stack instincts with comfort in backend services, frontend build pipelines, Kubernetes manifests, and CI configurations.
• Strong product instincts focused on internal users, identifying valuable projects, and measuring impact.
• Expertise in CI/CD systems, container orchestrators, build tooling, and service communication protocols.
• Ability to thrive in ambiguity, find high-leverage problems, and communicate effectively.
• A helpful attitude with a drive for impact, ensuring every engineer is productive and confident.

Nice to Have

• Experience in data-driven DevX development using metrics like DORA.
• Familiarity with AWS.
• Experience in Identity and Access Management (IAM) at scale.
• Knowledge of Terraform.
