Description
GitLab is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead the technical direction of glab, its Go-based command-line interface (CLI). As a founding engineer of a new functional team, you will own architecture, implementation, roadmap execution, and day-to-day technical choices.
Responsibilities:
- Guide the technical direction of glab, owning its architecture, implementation, and evolution.
- Design and ship terminal-first features and workflows in Go, focusing on developer experience, performance, and backwards compatibility.
- Collaborate with Product Management to shape and execute the roadmap, making clear trade-offs and turning feedback into high-impact changes.
- Steer the open source project and community by triaging issues, reviewing and merging contributions, and upholding a high quality bar.
- Work with other Developer Clients teams to ensure glab integrates well with the broader GitLab developer experience.
Requirements:
- Significant experience with Go and building command-line interfaces or systems-level tools.
- A history of open source contributions through issues, merge requests, and reviews.
- Proven ability to operate as a self-directed owner, absorbing multiple and frequently changing inputs.
- Strong product and user experience instincts for developer workflows.
- Experience setting technical direction and influencing work across teams in an IC role.
