Description
The Leidos Defense Group is seeking a Tech V Shipboard Installer at its Norfolk, VA office. This role involves using experience to support the ILC mission, which conducts maintenance, modernization, and installation of ASW sonar systems.
The successful candidate will serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for shipboard fiber optic cable infrastructure installation, termination, testing, and troubleshooting. They will prioritize safety, oversee installation team members, and provide feedback to the project engineer and other leadership.
Key responsibilities include:
- Conducting the WAF and tag-out/lockout process as required
- Prioritizing safety of personnel, Ship's Force, and equipment while maintaining dynamic production schedules
- Overseeing installation team members, subcontractors, and teaming partners
- Observing and adhering to all safety regulations and procedures
- Mentoring team members on safety and ensuring compliance with applicable safety regulations and procedures
The role requires:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of 10 years of direct fiber optic cable installation, termination, testing, and troubleshooting experience
- Certification to install, terminate, and test fiber optic cabling in accordance with MIL-STD-2042
- Proficiency in performing cable testing with minimal supervision
- Proficiency in optical time-domain reflectometers, optical loss test sets, light sources, visual fault locators, and fiber inspection scopes
- Ability to identify and correct high-loss connections, damaged fiber, improper terminations, contamination, and other installation defects
- Knowledge of single-mode and multimode fiber, connector types, polish types, bend radius requirements, and proper handling practices
- Skilled in cable cutting, end preparation, and installation in accordance with technical drawings
- Demonstrated hands-on experience installing various cable types in field environments
- Capability to plan cable runs and support installation activities
- Competence in reading and interpreting electrical installation and red-line drawings
- Familiarity with Safety Lock-out/Tag-out programs
- Experience preparing and submitting formal reports via email
- U.S. citizenship and an active Secret clearance or eligibility to obtain one
- Proficiency with hand tools and power tools
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and climb ladders
Preferred qualifications include:
- Valid driver's license
- Valid passport
- Copper Connector Fabricator Qualified
- OSHA 10
- Understanding of 9090-310 requirements, documentation, and processes
The pay range for this role is $59,150.00 - $106,925.00.
