Software Engineer, Web Platform

About the role

As a Software Engineer on Anthropic's Web Platform team, you'll build the foundational layer for Claude.ai, our flagship consumer product. This involves designing and shipping shared components, evolving backend-for-frontend (BFF) APIs, and improving build, deploy, and observability systems.

Key responsibilities

• Improve developer velocity by reducing friction in build, deploy, and testing pipelines.
• Work on performance and reliability: identify and resolve latency issues, improve observability, and establish high standards.
• Design and build shared UI components, libraries, and abstractions for consistent and efficient shipping on web and mobile.
• Partner with product engineering teams to understand their needs and shape platform investments.
• Maintain and evolve documentation and tooling for a smooth platform experience.

Minimum qualifications

• Strong practical skills in modern web technologies (React, TypeScript) and experience with APIs serving frontend applications.
• A track record of building things that make other engineers more productive.
• Solid instincts around reliability, observability, and performance in production systems.
• Experience thriving in fast-paced, collaborative environments.

Preferred qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering experience building shared platforms, developer tools, or infrastructure.
• Experience with shared component libraries, design systems, or reusable UI infrastructure.
• Knowledge of API design and client-server architecture patterns.
• Familiarity with performance optimization, latency reduction, CI/CD, and observability.

Logistics

• Annual Salary: $320,000-$405,000 USD
• Minimum education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
• Required field of study: Relevant to the role.
• Location-based hybrid policy: 25% office time.
