Technical Program Manager, RL Research

Job Overview

As a Technical Program Manager on the reinforcement learning team at Anthropic, you will own the systems and programs that determine the pace of our research. Your primary focus will be on ensuring the smooth operation of our research processes, making informed decisions, and collaborating with various teams.

Responsibilities

• Deliver regular updates on the state of RL research, covering performance against baselines, experiment results, and incidents.
• Prioritize and track experiments with RL org leads.
• Drive end-to-end research reviews, set agendas, and ensure effective decision-making.
• Establish processes and frameworks to structure research without hindering progress.
• Collaborate with research leads, infrastructure engineers, and data operations to identify blockers and make technical trade-off decisions.

Requirements

• Background in ML engineering or ML research before transitioning to technical program management.
• Hands-on experience with ML training pipelines, RLHF systems, and large-scale data infrastructure.
• Proven track record of building execution plans and processes that reduce operational overhead.
• Ability to learn quickly, navigate ambiguity, and drive progress in a fast-moving research setting.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
