The Development Manager, also known as Development Director at EA, plays a critical role in ensuring the successful delivery of a game, on time and within budget. Prior to production, they conduct a detailed analysis of the game design and establish project milestones, agreeing on these with key technical and creative managers. The Development Manager then creates a project schedule, determines personnel and equipment needs, and monitors the team's progress against the schedule.
Key responsibilities include:
- Project Management
+ Establishing an overall project schedule based on individual task estimates + Determining resource requirements and validating task duration + Managing the change request process and communicating impacts to stakeholders
- Staff Management
+ Providing inspiring leadership and proactive communication with employees + Developing retention programs and career action plans for team members + Participating in performance evaluations and recruitment
- Leadership
+ Ensuring adequate equipment, tools, and support for team members + Enhancing understanding of the production process and offering input + Providing input for departmental planning and facilitating process improvements
The ideal candidate should possess:
- 5+ years of software development experience and 4 years of project management experience
- 3 years of leadership experience
- Strong negotiation, mediation, and conflict resolution skills
- Effective communication skills across all levels of an organisation
- A bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent
- PMP certification is an asset
- Mandarin/English bilingual is preferred
