Senior Backend Engineer, Core DevOps: Container Registry

GitLab is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to design, implement, and evolve product capabilities while solving high-scope backend problems and influencing the technical and product direction of their teams.

As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will:

• Drive technical direction by designing and shipping moderate to complex backend features with minimal guidance
• Raise the bar by advocating for product quality, security, availability, and performance
• Mentor and lead associate and intermediate engineers, removing technical blockers and improving team delivery practices
• Diagnose and prevent performance and reliability issues at scale, participating in incident response and acting as a technical owner where appropriate
• Integrate AI into production engineering work to improve outcomes, evaluate its effectiveness, and coach others on responsible use

The ideal candidate will have:

• Deep backend expertise with a strong command of backend architecture, APIs, data systems, and performance tuning
• Adaptability with proficiency in modern backend languages and a deep understanding of systems programming
• Architectural judgment with experience designing or evolving modular backend boundaries, bounded contexts, and migration-safe architectures
• Influence through technical judgment and clear written communication
• Agentic AI expertise with proven experience building or operating agentic systems in production
