Staff Engineer, Electromechanical Motor Design (R6028)

Shield AI is seeking a Staff Engineer for Electromechanical Motor Design. You will own the design of motors and other electric machines for X-BAT and other next-gen aircraft.

Responsibilities:

• Design sub-systems and components including wound field motor, permanent magnet motor, and motor mechanical structural components
• Integrate designs with the aircraft structure, engine, power electronics, and thermal system
• Create detailed 3D CAD models and 2D drawings of electro-mechanical designs at a component and motor sub-system level
• Release detailed work instructions and documentation in close collaboration with manufacturing
• Execute hands-on testing and full qualification on a representative dyno, engine test stand, and full aircraft
• Perform noise and vibration testing on components for motors and power electronics, including vehicle powertrain and thermal systems

Requirements:

• 5+ years of experience in mechanical design of electric motors
• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent
• Strong technical fundamentals with material selection, mechanics, dynamics, thermal, DFM, and tolerancing
• Proficiency with 3D CAD modeling
• Experience with GD&T, stack-up analyses (linear & radial), and determining realistic tolerancing limits based on manufacturing best practices
• Delivered motor products from design through production
• Hands-on experience to verify performance and integrate with power electronics
• Experience testing for noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH)
• Hands-on experience with prototyping, testing, and troubleshooting
