Safety Assistant Manager

We are seeking a Safety Assistant Manager to join our team at American Honda Motor Company in Haw River, North Carolina. The successful candidate will lead a team of safety professionals to innovate, design, and improve systems, processes, equipment, and tools to enhance safety characteristics in alignment with daily operations, new model development, business plans, and innovation.

The Assistant Manager, Safety will apply their scientific and practical knowledge of the safety compliance field to achieve or exceed targets and promote safety excellence.

Key responsibilities include:

• Leading plant safety themes and complex improvement projects
• Managing the daily operations of a team of Safety Professionals and mentoring direct reports
• Fostering technical expertise and professional skills of direct reports
• Leveraging safety expertise to proactively cycle PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act) to reduce injuries and hazards and ensure continuous improvement of safety characteristics
• Accurately interpreting and applying the Honda Safety Management manual, including NA and HDMA policies and procedures
• Participating in PDCA of policies and procedures based on technical expertise
• Performing and documenting complex safety compliance activities, including risk assessments, ergonomic studies, and process and equipment innovation
• Presenting and reporting safety activities and results, including complex data analysis and trending
• Developing personal technical expertise and professional skills

The ideal candidate will have:

• A Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Occupational Safety and Health, or another ABET-certified safety and health program or equivalent related experience
• 8+ years of safety experience or equivalent Honda manufacturing experience
• Professional certification such as Advanced Safety Certificate, Occupational Hygiene and Safety Technician, Certified Safety Professional, or Safety Management Specialist
• Interpersonal relationship skills
• Detailed understanding of major health and safety regulations and injury/illness prevention strategies
• Ability to communicate with all levels of the organisation
• Verbal and written communication skills
• Experience using Microsoft Office products
• Strong planning and prioritisation skills
• Advanced data analysis and problem-solving skills
• Complex understanding of business planning, budgeting, and cost reporting
• Expertise with root cause analysis and implementation of countermeasures

Working conditions:

• Open office environment
• Manufacturing environment (for Manufacturing Management Centre assignments)
