Description

We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Consultant Specialist in our Wealth & Prem Solutions Tech department.

Principal responsibilities:

  • Own end-to-end delivery for core systems (Mainframe/COBOL) and distributed (Java) applications: requirements clarification, solution design, development, testing support, release, and production run/support.
  • Contribute to or lead legacy modernisation and capability evolution: while ensuring stability and compliance, drive service enablement / API enablement of COBOL capabilities and integration/decoupling with Java middle-tier or microservices.
  • Design and deliver high-quality, highly available services and batch capabilities, including interfaces, batch jobs, data processing, and reconciliation across critical processing chains.
  • Partner closely with Product, Business, QA, Operations, Architecture, Information Security, and Risk/Compliance teams to deliver cross-team dependencies and ensure delivery is predictable, auditable, and traceable.
  • Implement engineering standards and quality gates: code reviews, automated testing, release and change governance, defect management; improve observability (logging/monitoring/alerting) and runbook quality.
  • Participate in production support and incident response: diagnose issues quickly, drive root-cause analysis (RCA) and permanent fixes, and continuously reduce incident rates and improve recovery efficiency.

Requirements:

  • Strong backend engineering capability with deep experience in COBOL/Mainframe or Java (ideally both), able to independently design and deliver complex modules.
  • Solid understanding of enterprise delivery and production operating models: change management, release processes, batch scheduling, data consistency, performance tuning, and troubleshooting.
  • Strong quality and risk mindset: able to deliver in a regulated environment; understands secure coding, access control, sensitive data protection, and audit requirements.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills: able to work effectively with Business, QA, Ops, and cross-location teams; articulate solutions, risks, and trade-offs clearly and drive decisions.
