Fastening Manufacturing Engineer

Ford is seeking a Fastening Manufacturing Engineer to join our Manufacturing team, helping build the world-class, smart vehicles Ford is known for.

In this role, you'll lead global fastening tooling and standards for North America Final Assembly plants, driving program strategy from development through sourcing and implementation.

You'll work directly with plants, product development, and cross-functional teams to advance emerging technologies like wireless tooling, Toolsnet 8, and pulse tool systems, while defining torque and angle monitoring strategies, driving cost studies, and leading quality audits to ensure adherence to fastening procedures and standards.

Responsibilities

• Lead global fastening tooling and standards to support future programs, campaign prevention, and reaction plans for Ford North America Final Assembly manufacturing facilities.
• Lead program-specific fastening projects and strategy during the development phase of the program through sourcing and Purchase Order issuance.
• Work directly with NA Final Assembly Manufacturing plants to execute overall fastening strategy through delivery and implementation.
• Define, maintain, and update fastening tooling standards.
• Assist in the development of and ensure full alignment on program costing.
• Investigate, develop, and vet new fastening technologies and vendors.
• Develop Global Manufacturing Fastening Standards, including procedures, Global Manufacturing Standards (GMR), standard cells, gap strategies with Product Development, standard costing for future model programs, DC Tooling CAD Library in Teamcenter, and GVOSS updates.
• Work with cross-functional teams on PAC papers and Stop Ships to improve manufacturing standards and reduce warranty costs.
• Support the development and implementation of new fastening technology in North American plants, including Wireless Technology, Toolsnet 8, and Pulse Tool Technology.
• Implement torque strategies and angle monitoring limits by gathering information from and aligning with Product Development and plants during launch phases.
• Support the implementation of Toolsnet 8 to support angle monitoring and reduce FSAs.
• Drive cost studies to ensure plants have residual torque equipment, torque test benches, TISS, TPPS, and Tool Tracker.
• Lead the development of online and offline repair strategies involving wireless tooling reporting to the Quality Operating System.
• Collaborate with a team of Launch Engineers to implement handheld DC tools into plants for future model programs.
• Support the Upperbody and Underbody Tooling Team on Ford-to-Furnish tooling orders.
• Lead 3rd-party quality auditors in performing yearly audits at North American plants for adherence to TISS reports, torque routes, fastening procedures, preventive maintenance status in Tool Tracker, TCNs, and torque-related alerts.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience
• Self-motivated, organized, hands-on, and collaborative individual
• Willingness to work outside existing comfort zones
• Strong interpersonal skills, presentation, and communication ability
• Fastening foundation with the ability to both learn and teach
• Ability to travel and interface with NA Manufacturing Plants
• Strong problem-solving abilities
