Description
You will work as a Senior Staff Engineer in the Applications Engineering team at Synopsys, Bengaluru, Karnataka, India.
As the leader in engineering solutions from silicon to systems, Synopsys enables customers to rapidly innovate AI-powered products. They deliver industry-leading silicon design, IP, simulation and analysis solutions, and design services.
In this role, you will serve as the technical point of contact for customers integrating Synopsys Interface IP into their most critical designs. You will guide customers through IP configuration, feature selection, and integration into their RTL and verification environments. You will also debug critical issues across simulation, synthesis, static timing analysis, and physical design flows using tools like VCS, Design Compiler, and PrimeTime.
Key responsibilities include:
- Serving as the technical point of contact for customers integrating Synopsys Interface IP, including Ethernet, PCIe, and DDR, into complex SoC designs
- Guiding customers through IP configuration, feature selection, and integration into their RTL and verification environments
- Debugging critical issues across simulation, synthesis, static timing analysis, and physical design flows using tools like VCS, Design Compiler, and PrimeTime
- Supporting silicon and system bring-up activities, working with customers to diagnose and resolve hardware-level issues in lab environments
- Collaborating with Synopsys R&D, product engineering, and field teams to deliver tailored solutions and escalate complex technical problems
- Staying current with evolving protocol specifications for Ethernet, PCIe, DDR, and emerging standards relevant to automotive, AI, and data center applications
- Traveling occasionally to customer sites for on-site integration support, training, and bring-up assistance
The impact you will have:
- Enabling successful first-pass silicon for customers by catching integration issues early and providing expert guidance through tape-out
- Reducing customer time-to-market by resolving technical blockers quickly and accurately during critical project phases
- Strengthening customer relationships and driving repeat business by becoming a trusted technical advisor they rely on for complex integrations
- Influencing future IP product roadmaps by feeding real-world customer requirements and pain points back to Synopsys R&D teams
- Expanding adoption of Synopsys Interface IP across high-growth markets including automotive, AI accelerators, and hyperscale data centers
- Contributing to the success of next-generation products that depend on high-speed, low-latency connectivity in increasingly complex system architectures
- Building internal knowledge and best practices that improve how Synopsys supports customers across the entire applications engineering organization
Requirements:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field with focus on VLSI or digital design
- 10+ years of hands-on experience in ASIC/SoC design, verification, or applications engineering with exposure to full tape-out cycles
- Deep working knowledge of at least one high-speed protocol: Ethernet (10G/25G/50G/100G/400G), PCIe (Gen3/Gen4/Gen5), or DDR (DDR4/DDR5/LPDDR5)
- Strong RTL coding skills in Verilog or VHDL, with ability to read, debug, and modify customer design code
- Practical experience with simulation (VCS, ModelSim, Xcelium), synthesis (Design Compiler, Genus), and static timing analysis (PrimeTime, Tempus) in a UNIX/Linux environment
- Familiarity with clock domain crossing (CDC), reset domain crossing (RDC), lint, DFT, and logical equivalence checking (LEC) is a strong plus
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, with ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly to diverse audiences
Who you are:
- You can take a vague customer problem description, ask three clarifying questions, and walk away with a clear action plan that actually solves the issue
- You are comfortable working across time zones and cultures, adapting your communication style to meet customers where they are technically and operationally
- You manage multiple customer engagements at once without dropping threads, keeping stakeholders informed and issues moving toward resolution
- You know when to dig in and solve a problem yourself and when to pull in specialists from R&D, and you do both without ego
- You are willing to travel occasionally for customer visits, training sessions, and on-site bring-up support when the situation calls for it
- You stay current with industry trends and protocol evolution because you understand that what you learned five years ago is not enough for what customers are building today
