Safety Engineer, Ford Energy

Ford Energy is a newly formed, wholly-owned subsidiary of Ford Motor Company dedicated to accelerating U.S. energy independence. Leveraging Ford’s century of manufacturing excellence and world-class battery energy storage systems (BESS) technology, Ford Energy designs, manufactures, and services grid-scale and commercial DC battery energy storage systems (BESS).

In this position, you will work with other team members in the implementation of the Company’s Safety Operating System (SOS) and plant-wide safety processes, such as emergency response planning, safety training, and with the application of technical standards, principles, theories, and concepts.

Responsibilities

• Work with other safety team members for the implementation of plant-wide safety processes including safety operating system, emergency response planning, and safety training orientations, by providing expertise on the application of occupational safety programs.
• Participate in the implementation of regular inspections and audits to identify and assess workplace hazards, unsafe conditions, risks, and related issues.
• Support and participate in launch activities of new projects, safety/ergonomic risks for new equipment/ processes, off-standard understanding, approvals, etc.
• Consult with multiple cross-functional leaders for accident investigations and near misses, applies risk management expertise to properly identify underlying causes and guides the development and implementation of corrective actions.
• Conduct need assessment and identify requirements for new training programs to prevent employee injuries and illnesses and the elimination of hazards in the work environment.
• Lead the delivery of Occupational Safety and Security projects partnering with external auditors/consultants and with other functional leaders.
• Design Occupational Safety for specific communications and standards in response to new and emerging occupational safety concerns.
• Support and lead continuous improvement initiatives in partnership with senior leaders across Health and Safety initiatives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Associate degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, or related field OR 5+ years of Occupational Health and Safety experience in lieu of a degree.
• Demonstrated knowledge of OSHA standards and the 14 elements of PSM.
• Involves frequently lifting of more than 10 to 25 pounds.
• Must be available to work various shifts as needed.
