Description
GitLab is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join its Authentication team. The successful candidate will work on authentication features across the Rails monolith and GATE, GitLab's new identity and access management control and data plane.
The role involves expanding authentication mechanisms, such as support for agentic identities, while ensuring robust access management and addressing vulnerabilities reported through the HackerOne program. The team works on various projects, including building GATE as a centralized service for token issuance and validation, token consolidation, passkeys and passwordless authentication, composite identities, service accounts, and security enhancements for automated user provisioning and single sign-on.
Key responsibilities include:
- Contributing to the team's direction and shaping the future roadmap of GATE and GitLab's authentication services
- Designing and implementing authentication features across the Rails monolith and GATE
- Migrating authentication and token management paths from the monolith into GATE
- Building new authentication mechanisms and bolstering the security posture of GitLab users and organizations
- Solving complex technical problems across Go and Ruby codebases
- Defining and improving internal standards for style, maintainability, and best practices
- Collaborating with the team on larger projects and representing GitLab in public communication
The ideal candidate will have professional experience with Go and/or Ruby in scaling or mission-critical software-as-a-service products, familiarity with authentication and authorization technologies, knowledge of token systems, and experience building or contributing to a service from concept to production.
