Description
We are seeking a Mechanical Development Engineer to join our team at American Honda Motor Company in Raymond, Ohio. As a Mechanical Development Engineer, you will be responsible for validating the body and/or chassis strength, durability, and marketability to meet Honda's internal requirements and model-specific targets.
Job Purpose Reliability Development Engineers are responsible for validating the body and/or chassis strength, durability, and marketability to meet Honda's internal requirements and model-specific targets with a goal of meeting or exceeding Honda and Acura customer expectations. You will be in charge of delivering full vehicle computational and testing results for body and/or chassis systems with available guidance as you continue to expand your technical knowledge and deepen your expertise in automotive development.
Key Accountabilities
- Produce and analyze engineering data using pre-set tools, methods, and formats. Involves working independently.
- Responsible for planning, preparing, and coordinating various aspects of exterior performance tests including arrangement of facilities, requesting technician support, and acquiring testing materials.
- Physically support tests including confirmation that test setups are correct and that test plans are understood and executed to intent.
- Prepare moderately complex documentation for review by technical leadership to record and submit all necessary development/testing/research information per the determined schedule.
- Help coordinate and execute root cause analysis, countermeasure activities, and improvement initiatives to technical leadership.
Qualifications, Experience, and Skills
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical, Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent.
- 0-6 years engineering experience based on education.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Experience in data analysis and communication of complex information to engineering management is desired.
- Experience with following software or similar is desired:
- 3D CAD surface modeling CATiA or SolidWorks.
- Data acquisition software.
- FEA Software Abaqus, Nastran, Hypermesh, Ansa, Meta, LS-DYNA.
- Scripting in Java, Python, MATLAB.
- Ability to communicate concerns and ideas through a remote work environment.
Working Conditions
- Travel Domestically and Internationally – up to 10% of time.
- Sitting – 70%.

- Lift & Carry 40 lbs – 5%.
- Exposure to Extreme Temperatures, Flammable Gases, Compressed Gases, Combustible Liquids.
- Physical ability to drive a car and have color vision.
- Willingness to work in a physical testing environment is required, including execution of physical tests.
- Overtime work will be required depending on project need.
