Description
We are seeking a Heavy Vehicle Technical Officer to join our team. As a Heavy Vehicle Technical Officer, you will play a pivotal role within the wider leadership team of Vehicle Services. You will process technical applications, ensuring that they are fully assessed and documentation is compliant. You will respond to technical queries from non-technical processing teams and act as trusted advisors to front-line colleagues, vehicle operators, vehicle manufacturers, and others.
The team plays a key role in ensuring heavy vehicles meet statutory testing and approval requirements before entering and whilst in service. The team assesses complex vehicle applications, including first tests, conversions, and type-approved vehicles, ensuring compliance with legislation and DVSA standards.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing professional assessment of heavy vehicle statutory test applications
- Undertaking assessment of applications of approved vehicles via the European Community Whole Vehicle Type Approval (ECWVTA) teams
- Providing technical support to non-technical processing teams and acting as an advisory service to front-line staff, operators, manufacturers, trade organisations, other agencies, and the public
- Investigating possible solutions to solve issues or mitigate risks
- Collaborating with the Vehicle Policy Team on new initiatives and developing new requirements and standards
- Communicating positively and effectively with internal and external customers
- Providing support to the Heavy Vehicle Processing Manager, representing DVSA at trade events, and carrying out ad hoc related tasks
- Maintaining relevant databases as required
The salary for this role is GBP 38,540 per year.
