Description
We are seeking a General Merchandise Team Leader to join our team at Target. As a General Merchandise Team Leader, you will be responsible for leading a team of hourly team members and ensuring that our guests have an exceptional shopping experience.
The starting pay range for this position per hour is $26.50 - $28.50. The full pay range for this position per hour is $26.50 - $45.05.
As a General Merchandise Team Leader, you will be responsible for:
- Consistently delivering guest experience commitments to create an Easy, Inspiring and Friendly guest experience
- Ensuring every team member understands, is trained, and consistently delivers on Target's guest experience commitments and consistent operations
- Actively observing and providing feedback, holding team members accountable while recognising great guest experience moments
- Reviewing area guest, financial, and team outcome metrics to identify opportunities, taking action to improve, and aligning team on the right behaviours and execution
- Leading the execution of daily/weekly workload to deliver on department and store sales goals and guest engagement

Responsibilities:
- Lead a team of hourly team members, including skills in interviewing, developing, coaching, evaluating and retaining talent
- Coach and train hourly team members to build a team of hourly team members with direction from your direct leader
- Ensure product is in stock, available, accurately priced and signed on the sales floor while prioritising guest experience
- Collaborate with all teams and leaders to identify key priorities and ensure the store is guest ready
- Stay informed about relevant trends and products to educate team members
- Evaluate candidates for open positions and develop a guest-centric team
- Identify team members for future leader positions and utilise growth development to build a talent pool within your department
- Support guest services such as back-up cashier, digital fulfilment processes while maintaining a compliance culture
- Demonstrate inclusivity by valuing diverse voices and approaches, being authentic and respectful, and creating equitable experiences
- Demonstrate a culture of ethical conduct, following all Target policies and safety procedures
- Lead and demonstrate a safety culture through modelling and recognising safe behaviours
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Age 18 or older
- Previous retail experience preferred, but not required
- Lead and hold others accountable
- Communicate on multiple frequency devices and operate handheld scanners, and other technology equipment as directed
- Work independently and as part of a team
- Manage workload and prioritise tasks independently
- Capability to remain focused and composed in a fast-paced environment and accomplish multiple tasks within established timeframes
- Welcoming and helpful attitude towards all guests and other team members
- Effective communication skills
Physical Requirements:
- Access all areas of the building to respond to guest or team member issues
- Interpret instructions, reports and information
- Accurately handle cash register operations as needed
- Climb up and down ladders
- Scan, handle and move merchandise efficiently and safely, including frequently lifting or moving merchandise up to 44 pounds without additional assistance from others
- Flexible work schedule (e.g., nights, weekends and holidays); reliable and prompt attendance necessary
- Although the role is full-time, it does not come with a guarantee of 40 hours each week. Hours will depend on the needs of the business and may fluctuate as required
- Capable of working in and exposure to varying temperatures, humidity, and other elements while performing certain job duties
- Ability to remain mobile for the duration of a scheduled shift
