Description

Samsara is looking to expand its in-house legal roster with an agile litigator able to work across litigation, compliance, and privacy matters.

The ideal candidate will enjoy serving as a key contributor on a diverse range of high-stakes litigation and pre-litigation issues, as well as helping to build out processes and procedures for a rapidly growing, global business.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate End-to-End Commercial Litigation Support: Drive all facets of active litigation, including responding to discovery requests, drafting and revising legal briefs, interviewing witnesses, preparing witnesses for testimony, and negotiating and drafting settlements.
  • Advocate for Customer Data Privacy and Protection Under Applicable Law: Provide counsel and guidance to resolve subpoenas or other legal requests seeking Samsara customer data, and manage litigation of such matters in civil and criminal courts as necessary.
  • Mitigate Risk & Proactively Resolve Disputes: Proactively address and resolve potential disputes while providing risk mitigation advice to business clients and supporting business objectives.
  • Uplevel & Manage the eDiscovery Lifecycle: Advance Samsara’s eDiscovery program through automation and AI by establishing defensible discovery guidelines and workflows, evaluate emerging enterprise communication and collaboration platforms to proactively manage data risk, and partner closely with business partners to control external spend and mitigate exposure.
  • Drive Process Innovation: Identify systematic legal risks and procedural gaps, designing scalable strategies and leveraging AI or other technology to mitigate risk and improve cross-functional workflows.
  • Monitor Trends & Deliver Actionable Legal Insights: Stay current with commercial litigation trends and best practices and provide forward-thinking and actionable advice to key internal stakeholders.

Minimum requirements for the role:

  • Education & Bar Admission: J.D. from an accredited law school with strong academic credentials, and active membership in at least one U.S. state bar.
  • Litigation Experience: 4+ years of litigation experience within a law firm, government agency, or corporate legal department, with a strong preference for prior in-house experience at a technology company.
  • Core Competencies: Highly proactive self-starter with a demonstrated ability to manage multiple high-priority projects and complex litigation portfolios simultaneously in a fast-moving, quickly changing environment.
  • Regulatory & Legal Framework Familiarity: Broad experience handling legal risk, conducting deep legal research, and navigating complex regulatory compliance and data privacy frameworks relevant to commercial disputes.
  • Adversarial & Authority Interaction: Direct experience managing commercial disputes, responding to regulatory inquiries, or handling adversarial legal matters from inception through resolution or trial.
  • Professional Advocacy & Judgment: Outstanding analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills (both written and verbal), with a proven ability to advocate for a position while maintaining an open-minded approach.

Benefits: At Samsara, we build for the people who keep the global economy moving. We want owners, not passengers, which is why our rewards are designed to fuel high-impact builders. Our compensation program delivers above-market total compensation through a combination of base salary, performance-based bonus/variable pay, and equity (for eligible roles) in a high-growth public company.
