WSP has a career opportunity for a Construction Materials Technician to join our team in Phoenix, AZ.
You will work as a valued member of our team and conduct tests and investigations in the field or laboratory to obtain data used by engineering and technical personnel in determining physical properties of construction materials.
Key responsibilities include:
- Conducting tests and investigations in the field or laboratory
- Demonstrating integrity in all testing and reporting activities
- Performing field and laboratory tests according to prescribed procedures, processes and standards
- Collecting soil, asphalt and concrete samples, preparing samples for testing, recording data, and preparing summary reports
- Using specialized equipment and apparatus to prepare analyses, reports and technical drawings
- Operating computer systems and peripheral equipment
- Maintaining results logs
- Entering data and using spreadsheet computer programs
- Confering with Engineers and Scientific staff on test and design efforts
- Setting up, maintaining and calibrating equipment
Field assignments may require travel and work to be performed on site under various environmental and climatic conditions for extended periods, including approximately 15% overnight travel.
Requirements:
- 3+ years of Construction Materials Testing experience
- Valid Driver's License
- Ability to use laboratory test equipment effectively and safely
- Understanding of procedure manuals and execution of work orders
- Report and documentation preparation skills
- Attention to detail and ability to follow directions
- Ability to lift and carry soil, asphalt and concrete samples
- Independent work capability
- Eligibility for coverage under WSP's fleet policy (drivers must be at least 21 years old)
- Passing background check and satisfactory driving record
Preferred Qualifications:
- ACI and ATTI certifications
- Soil or asphalt nuclear density testing experience
- Knowledge of materials testing and project focus
- Understanding of applicable ASTM, AASHTO and ADOT Standards
