Description
We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join our team as a Senior Associate Director Engineering.
The CTO Platform Engineering & Architecture (CTOp) organisation sits within the Chief Technology Office (CTO) and is responsible for building next-gen application and AI platforms that remove toil and reduce operational overhead through integrated controls and open-source solutions – making software delivery faster, safer, and more reliable every time.
The position is a hands-on self-driven, highly autonomous technical engineer who is genuinely passionate about modern cloud architecture, automation, and platform engineering. The expectation for this role is that you are someone who doesn't wait for a detailed specification to act. Instead, you identify friction, propose solutions, and drive initiatives to completion.
Role Overview This is a high-visibility Subject Matter Expert (SME) position operating at the intersection of hands-on platform engineering, solution architecture, and technical advisory. You will lead the end-to-end building of core platform deliverables while directly consulting with customers and partner engineers to architect, validate, and deliver robust cloud solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Autonomous Execution & Platform Deliverables
- Drive Platform Roadmap: Autonomously lead the design, build, and evolution of enterprise-grade cloud landing zones, developer self-service tools, and platform primitives.
- IaC & Automation: Write reusable, production-grade Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and deployment pipelines to enable seamless platform delivery.
- Kubernetes Ecosystem: Architect and maintain container platform primitives (EKS/AKS/GKE), GitOps workflows, and ingress/networking layers.
- Ownership & SRE: Take end-to-end accountability for platform reliability, performance tuning, cost optimisation, and observability.
- Customer Consultancy & Engineering Solutioning
- Technical Advisory: Serve as the primary SME in technical discovery sessions, customer design reviews, and architectural alignment meetings.
- Collaborative Solutioning: Partner directly with software engineers, product owners, and client leads to turn business problems into executable technical blueprints.
- Technology Advocacy: Evaluate new cloud technologies and frameworks, championing best practices across internal teams and customer environments.
Required Mindset & Technical Qualifications:
- High autonomy: Demonstrated track record leading complex technical initiatives with minimal supervision.
- Technology enthusiasm: Active interest in the evolving cloud-native landscape (Kubernetes, platform automation, GitOps, zero-trust).
- Consultative presence: Strong verbal and written communication skills; confident whiteboarding solutions and advising senior/executive stakeholders.
- Enterprise navigation: Proven ability to deliver in a large, regulated, matrix organisation - working effectively across security, risk, architecture, and operations.
Full-Stack Infrastructure Capabilities
- Public cloud: SME-level public cloud skills in a multi-cloud setting. This role is GCP-focused, but we’re open to strong AWS/Azure practitioners motivated to transition to GCP.
- Infrastructure as Code: Terraform, OpenTofu, Pulumi, or native IaC tooling.
- Containers & orchestration: Deep hands-on expertise with Kubernetes (GKE/EKS/AKS), Helm, and container security.
- CI/CD & GitOps: Hands-on delivery experience with GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Argo CD, or Flux.
- Networking & security: VPC/VNet architectures, IAM/RBAC, zero-trust patterns, and ingress control.
- Scripting/tooling: Proficiency in Python, Go, or Bash for automation.
