Staff Software Engineer

As a Staff Software Engineer at Bayer, you will be focused on building and coordinating technical direction across teams. You will work with Senior Staff Software Engineers, Senior Software Engineers, Product Designers, Product Managers, and Leadership to set relevant long-term technical goals and drive innovative solutions that will continue to build on Bayer Crops Science's market advantage.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, test, and maintain software applications that meet user needs and business requirements.
• Write clean, efficient code and collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements, troubleshoot issues, and implement enhancements.
• Apply best practices in software development, including version control and agile methodologies, to ensure high-quality deliverables.
• Participate in code reviews and contribute to documentation, fostering a collaborative environment that supports continuous improvement and innovation in software solutions.
• Act as a leader within your squad and unit, influencing and aligning multiple team members and teams towards accomplishing shared business outcomes.

Additional Tasks and Responsibilities:

• Work as part of an agile development team to build and support applications.
• Manage project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables with the team and product manager.
• Interact directly with business customers to gather and understand requirements and how they translate into application features.
• Develop applications and services using the right tool for the job.
• Leverage AI coding assistants and generative AI tools within daily workflows to drive efficiency across development, debugging, and documentation.
• Contribute to solving organisation-wide problems, including shared platforms, libraries, and frameworks.
• Conduct functional and non-functional testing, troubleshoot and debug applications, and deploy applications across all environments.
• Champion code quality, including unit and integration testing.
• Evaluate existing applications to refactor, update, and add new features.
• Develop technical documentation needed to accurately represent application design and code.
• Identify and pursue opportunities to improve your own knowledge and skills and those of more junior engineers.

Requirements:

• Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• Minimum of 8 years of experience in solving challenging technical problems in areas such as single-page web application development, cloud-based continuous delivery and environment management, micro-service design and development, large distributed system development, software security, and processing and analysing large data sets.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience designing cloud-based software solutions.
• Practical experience and understanding of industry practices, engineering principles, concepts, and standards.
• Proven experience integrating AI-assisted engineering tools into daily SDLC practices.
• Expertise in at least one technology or facet of product development.
• Demonstrates capable business insight, strategic mindset, cultivates innovation, drives vision and purpose, and attracts and develops talent leadership competencies and decision-making skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

• 3+ years of experience with regulatory compliance in the Crop Science domain, including IT product development for regulatory functions.

Benefits:

• Salary between $122,160 - $183,240.
• Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission.
