Staff Software Engineer

As a Staff Engineer on the OIG team at Okta, you will be involved in the development, design, and maintenance of our product to serve enterprise customers at scale.

You will work on the architecture and evolution of our product features, spanning different access governance personas, and collaborate with engineering, product, and design teams to deliver secure, scalable, and user-friendly features.

This role requires a systems thinker who leads with craft and is energised by building enterprise-grade software that millions of users depend on.

Key responsibilities:

• Take end-to-end ownership of feature areas, from technical design to implementation, testing, deployment, and post-launch monitoring
• Design, build, and ship high-quality features across the OIG system, focusing on correctness, reliability, and performance
• Deliver high-quality bug fixes and handle customer-reported issues
• Write clean, well-tested, maintainable code and uphold high engineering standards
• Collaborate with Product Development, QA, and Site Reliability Engineering teams for scoping development and deployment work

Requirements:

• 8+ years of software engineering experience, with a proven track record of independently owning and delivering complex features in a production environment
• Experience architecting and delivering large-scale, distributed systems in production environments serving enterprise customers
• Deep expertise in microservices, event-driven architectures, APIs, and data modelling at scale
• Strong proficiency in one or more of: Java, Kotlin, Go, or equivalent JVM/cloud-native languages
• Ability to influence without authority and drive technical alignment across multiple teams and stakeholders
• Experience designing systems that meet enterprise reliability, scalability, and security requirements
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Preferred skills:

• Experience building identity, access management, or governance products or platforms
• Familiarity with workflow engines or approval/routing systems
• Experience with enterprise SaaS platforms serving large, complex customer organisations
• Hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure and modern observability tooling
