Staff Software Engineer

We are looking for a Staff Software Engineer to join the SIW Platform team at Okta, which is responsible for building and maintaining secure web experiences for end-user authentication and access.

As a Staff Software Engineer, you will lead the technical execution and architecture of the Okta Sign-In Widget (SIW) platform, ensuring it meets enterprise-grade standards for security, scalability, and performance. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to shape the product roadmap and translate complex business requirements into a sustainable technical strategy.

Responsibilities:

• Lead the technical execution and architecture of the SIW platform
• Define the long-term strategy for the SIW platform
• Lead the design and implementation of core platform features and foundational framework components
• Collaborate with Product Management, Design, and other Principal Engineers to shape the product roadmap
• Spearhead the resolution of complex technical challenges
• Champion technical excellence and innovation
• Optimize applications for speed, scalability, and responsiveness
• Write clean, modular, well-tested, and maintainable code

Requirements:

• 8+ years of software development experience
• 5+ years of experience designing and building complex, enterprise-grade web applications
• Demonstrated experience as a technical leader
• Deep mastery of the modern frontend ecosystem, including React and TypeScript
• Exceptional problem-solving skills and ability to navigate ambiguity

Technical Qualifications:

• Familiarity with modern frontend stacks, including JavaScript/TypeScript, React, and tooling such as Webpack or Vite
• Solid understanding of modern JavaScript (ES6+), HTML5, and CSS3
• Familiarity with server-side languages such as Java or C#
• Familiarity with testing frameworks and a commitment to writing comprehensive tests
• Understanding of web security principles, secure coding practices, and accessibility standards

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience
