Firefighter (Event Staff)

We are seeking a Firefighter (Event Staff) to join our team at Watkins Glen International, located in Watkins Glen, New York.

The compensation range for this position is $16.00 - $20.00 per hour. This is a seasonal role, working from April 17th to October 25th, with varying hours between 8 to 40 hours a week, typically Monday to Friday, 7:30 am to 4:30 pm, depending on the event schedule.

Responsibilities:

• Respond to on-track fires and extinguish them
• Perform salvage operations such as throwing salvage covers, sweeping water, and removing debris
• Respond to and assist in emergency cases
• Clean and inspect equipment and apparatus after returning from a fire
• Inspect equipment and apparatus, notifying EMS & Facilities Manager of any defects
• Make minor repairs to equipment and apparatus, perform routine preventative maintenance tasks, and keep records
• Keep the fire truck and equipment in a clean and orderly condition
• Participate in training activities and instruction sessions
• Acquire and retain thorough knowledge of the race track
• Perform all work duties and activities in accordance with WGI’s policies and procedures
• Work in a safe manner, report unsafe activity and conditions, and follow WGI safety policy and practices

Requirements:

• Minimum 18 years of age
• Common sense, good judgment, and logical thinking
• Reliability and punctuality
• Knowledge of the Weekday Safety Team Handbook
• Ability to work as a team member
• Reliable transportation to and from the track location
• Valid driver’s license required
• Fire Fighter One required
• Extrication certification is preferred but not required
• Required to work some weekends
