Description
The Substation Design Control Engineer/Designer position is required to design protective relay & control schemes utilizing microprocessor-based relay systems in both green and brown field projects.
Responsibilities:
- Make safety the top priority using a 'Safety First' mentality and leading by example
- Enforce Quality Assurance guidelines for the preparation of high-quality design packages needed to construct substations
- Provide guidance on Southern Company Design Standards, procedures, and processes
- Design protective relay & control schemes utilizing microprocessor-based relay systems
- Assist in the specification and ordering of material for substation design packages
- Coordinate and communicate with other departments associated with Substation Design
- Interact with manufacturers, vendors, and Southern Company committee members to resolve equipment and material issues
- Provide support to Substation Construction, Field Services, Project Management, and Substation Maintenance
- Perform site visits for projects, including pre-engineering meetings and post-job evaluation meetings
- Support Southern Company's design criteria and standardization effort
- Handle multiple tasks simultaneously and use effective time management and organizational skills
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Electrical preferred) with 5 years minimum relevant experience
- Experience using Autodesk Suite (including AutoCAD Electrical) or higher is preferred
- Substation protective relay testing experience along with control scheme testing and commissioning experience a strong plus
- Understanding of substation protection & control scheme operation is preferred
Travel & Work Location:
- This position will require some travel (approximately 25%) and be in Metro Atlanta (Forest Park, GA)
- Relocation assistance may be provided if the successful candidate does not currently live within a reasonable commute distance
