Material Flow Engineer

The Material Flow Engineer is responsible for designing, evaluating, and executing internal logistics and material handling processes for new program launches at Ford Mexico VO plants.

You will lead facility readiness, floor-space planning, and material flow studies across pre-production and launch milestones, ensuring that tooling, layout configurations, and storage infrastructure are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest safety and lean manufacturing standards.

Responsibilities

• Provide engineering support for material flow processes; document standards and procedures, provide training, and ensure overall adherence and maintenance to ensure materials are available in designated stock, markets, and line locations throughout the facility.
• Collaborate with Planning & Inventory Control, Production, Material Handlers, and Supply Chain to establish robust policies and strive for continuous improvement.
• Apply technical expertise in the development of material flow processes.
• Design and develop material flow processes and equipment.
• Recommend changes to increase safety, reduce costs, improve quality, and optimize efficiency.
• Participate in plant layout activities.
• Develop floor space analyses to confirm storage requirements and recommend practical solutions.
• Assist in qualifying manual and powered material handling equipment requirements.
• Work to improve material flow and manage materials and inventory consistent with Lean principles.
• Lay out market, sequencing, and kitting areas to facilitate material handling, process flow, space utilization, and labor.
• Define and manage in-plant storage and call systems to maintain inventories.
• Provide vehicle and pedestrian flow/congestion/safety analyses and recommend practical solutions.
• Interact with other functional groups and vendors.

Qualifications

• Industrial, Logistics, Mechatronics, Electrical, Electronics, or related Bachelor of Engineering Certification.
• Advanced knowledge of CAD 2D design, creation of Isometrics, work cells, layout for process engineering, and production areas related to Material flow.
• Experience with analyzing databases and good knowledge of Excel.
• Microsoft Office (Excel/Word/PowerPoint/Outlook/Access).
• English speaking and understanding.
• Leadership skills to coordinate multiple teams.
