Senior Legal Counsel

Prudential is seeking an experienced and self-driven Senior Legal Counsel to support high-net-worth (HNW) insurance business across multiple jurisdictions.

The role focuses on offshore insurance policies, including Bermuda issued policies, and cross-border distribution, ensuring compliance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide legal advice on HNW insurance products, including life, wealth planning, and bespoke insurance solutions.
• Advise on offshore insurance structures, including structures held under trust arrangements, with particular focus on Bermuda-issued policies and other offshore jurisdictions.
• Review, draft, and negotiate insurance policies, endorsements, reinsurance agreements, and distribution agreements.
• Advise on cross-border insurance distribution rules, licensing, and regulatory requirements across multiple jurisdictions.
• Partner with operations, compliance, risk, and business stakeholders on regulatory interpretation, governance, and regulatory change.
• Manage and instruct external counsel in offshore and onshore jurisdictions.
• Handle regulatory inquiries, audits, or legal issues arising from HNW insurance.
• Provide pragmatic, commercially focused legal advice to senior stakeholders.
• Contribute to internal policies, legal guidance, and training on offshore insurance, reinsurance, and cross-border distribution matters.

Job Requirements:

• Qualified lawyer in a common law jurisdiction (e.g., Hong Kong, UK, Singapore, or equivalent).
• 8–12+ years post-qualification experience in insurance and/or wealth-related legal work.
• Strong experience advising on HNW insurance and wealth structuring.
• Demonstrated familiarity with premium financing structures in an HNW/UHNW context.
• Proven knowledge of offshore insurance regimes, with experience with Bermuda being an advantage.
• Solid understanding of cross-border insurance distribution and related regulatory frameworks.
• Experience gained in-house at an insurer, reinsurer, financial institution, or leading insurance/private wealth law firm preferred.
• Ability to work independently and manage complex, high-value matters.
• Strong communication, drafting, negotiation, and stakeholder-management skills.
• Commercial, solution-oriented mindset.
• Fluency in English and proficiency in written and spoken Chinese (Cantonese and/or Mandarin) is highly preferred to effectively communicate with stakeholders across Hong Kong and regional markets.
