Description
We are seeking a Public Policy Associate to join our team in Washington, D.C. This is a full-time, on-site role that involves working closely with our Communications team and executive leadership to engage with policymakers, trade associations, and civil society leaders.
As a Public Policy Associate, you will be responsible for executing our policy communications strategy, building relationships with stakeholders, advocating for our positions, and representing Perplexity in various settings.
Key responsibilities include:
- Executing our policy communications strategy set by our Comms and executive leadership teams
- Building and maintaining relationships with Hill staff, executive branch staff, trade associations, think tanks, and civil society organizations
- Advocating directly for our positions and following bills and rulemakings that affect Perplexity
- Running our D.C. event footprint, including Hill staff briefings, roundtables, product demos, and receptions
- Representing Perplexity in coalitions and trade association working groups
- Partnering with think tanks and civil society groups on convenings, research launches, and joint programming
- Preparing our leaders for D.C. engagements
To be successful in this role, you should have:
- At least 3 years of professional experience, including time on Capitol Hill or in a related field
- External lobbying experience, either at a government relations or law firm, or in-house at a company
- A strong network in Washington, D.C. and the ability to grow it
- Event execution skills and the ability to run events smoothly
- Strong writing skills and the ability to turn complex information into clear, concise messaging
- Sound judgment and the ability to represent a company in a room without a script
- Genuine curiosity about AI policy and the substance of what Perplexity is building
