Staff Systems Engineer, IT

GitLab is seeking a Staff Systems Engineer, IT to own the systems and integrations behind the employee lifecycle, onboarding, role changes, and offboarding.

The successful candidate will design, build, and own end-to-end automation for the employee lifecycle, serve as the technical owner of GitLab's ITSM platform, and increase AI deflection rates for all stakeholders of the ITSM system.

Key responsibilities include:

• Designing, building, and owning end-to-end automation for the employee lifecycle
• Serving as the technical owner of GitLab's ITSM platform
• Increasing AI deflection rates for all stakeholders of the ITSM system
• Identifying repetitive, manual workflows across IT and replacing them with automation
• Building and maintaining integrations between the ITSM platform and GitLab's core systems
• Managing IT-owned infrastructure as code across cloud environments
• Applying SRE principles to the services IT owns
• Developing knowledge management and self-service experiences
• Instrumenting automation and AI performance with clear metrics and dashboards
• Setting engineering standards for the IT automation stack
• Partnering with Security and Compliance to ensure lifecycle automation and AI workflows meet access, audit, and control requirements

The ideal candidate will have:

• Breadth as a generalist systems engineer
• Solid infrastructure-as-code experience
• A working command of SRE principles
• Experience running workloads in a major public cloud
• Experience designing or operating virtual desktop infrastructure
• A track record automating employee lifecycle processes
• Experience with workflow automation and iPaaS tooling
• Familiarity with AI-enabled service capabilities
• Strong scripting and development skills
• Excellent written communication skills

The base salary range for this role is $126,000-$213,600 USD.
