Test Engineer

Description

The central responsibility of this role is to deliver effective and reliable testing across DVSA digital services

Working within a delivery-focused Agile environment, and in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, you will contribute to the design and implementation of testing processes for a range of DVSA digital services.

You will be responsible for delivering structured, cost-effective test activities to support the successful delivery of major initiatives.

You will apply established testing methodologies, primarily testing techniques, to ensure services meet defined business needs and operate in accordance with government and industry quality standards.

You will work closely with development teams to identify and capture test cases, support test environment readiness, and design and execute test plans across DVSA digital projects and products.

You will share knowledge with colleagues and support continuous improvement of testing practices within your team.

While collaborating with others who may develop automated solutions, this role focuses on test design, execution and quality assurance rather than software development or coding.

You will help ensure that DVSA-developed digital services function as intended, meet user and business requirements, and provide confidence in delivery decisions through clear reporting of test outcomes and risks.

Responsibilities

  • Execute functional, integration, system and revalidation testing activities, ensuring testing remains relevant to business needs and product risk.
  • Work effectively within fast-paced digital delivery environments, maintaining focus on quality, risk and user outcomes.
  • Support testing by leveraging testing tools to execute test scenarios, review results, and gain insights, collaborating with colleagues responsible for building the frameworks
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement within team-level testing practices and contribute to corporate testing standards and best practice guidance.
  • Review test results and adapt testing activities where necessary to maintain quality and coverage.

Benefits

  • Employer pension contribution of 28.97% of your salary
  • 25 days annual leave, increasing by 1 day each year of service (up to a maximum of 30 days annual leave), plus 8 bank holidays a privilege day for the King’s birthday
  • Flexible working options where we encourage a great work-life balance.

Requirements

  • Understanding and experience of testing within a software delivery team.
  • Knowledge of defect management and test management tools, and familiarity with version control systems such as Git to support collaboration within Agile teams
  • Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to interpret requirements and identify appropriate test conditions and scenarios.
  • Familiarity with test tools and frameworks and the ability to apply them to design effective test scenarios and maximise the value of testing activities
