Staff+ Software Engineer, Infrastructure (Distributed Systems)

Anthropic's Infrastructure organization builds and operates distributed systems for training, serving, and securing AI models. As a Staff+ Software Engineer on the Infrastructure team, you will independently scope and lead complex infrastructure projects, make architectural decisions, and work closely with research and product teams.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead complex, multi-month infrastructure projects from start to production
• Make architectural decisions shaping the foundation of infrastructure
• Drive alignment on technical direction across multiple teams
• Partner with research and product teams to understand their needs and build systems
• Ensure reliability, scalability, and security of systems
• Set technical strategy and standards for your team's infrastructure
• Build and improve operational processes
• Mentor other engineers and help raise the technical bar for the team

Minimum Qualifications:

• Experience designing, building, and operating large-scale distributed systems
• Track record of independently scoping and delivering complex projects
• Experience making architectural decisions
• Strong software engineering fundamentals and proficiency in at least one programming language
• Experience with modern cloud infrastructure, including Kubernetes and infrastructure-as-code
• Strong written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

• 10+ years of software engineering experience
• Experience with machine learning infrastructure
• Low-level systems experience
• Background in security or privacy engineering best practices
• Prior experience as a technical lead or mentor

Logistics:

• Annual salary: $320,000 - $485,000 USD
• Minimum education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
• Location-based hybrid policy: 25% office time
