The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) is seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Technical Officer to join our dynamic team. This role is essential in supporting the development and enhancement of our world-class laboratory services and facilities.

As a Technical Officer, you will be a key contributor to the lifecycle of our laboratory services, from planning and design to final deployment. You will work collaboratively with a diverse team of stakeholders to ensure our labs are safe, compliant, and ready for cutting-edge research and teaching.

Key Responsibilities

Laboratory Development:

  • Assist in planning, detailed design and improving laboratory services, processes, and infrastructure.
  • Contribute to the design and setup of new and renovated lab environments including wet lab, dry lab and computational lab.
  • Help create and maintain documentation for tender specification document, service standards and operating procedures.

Technical Coordination:

  • Provide daily technical support for lab development projects.
  • Coordinate with internal teams, academic units, and external contractors to track project progress.
  • Assist in troubleshooting technical issues during development and installation phases.

Procurement and Asset Management:

  • Support the procurement of laboratory equipment and consumables, including the preparation of technical specifications.
  • Help manage asset tracking, inventory, and maintenance schedules for lab resources.

Safety and Quality Assurance:

  • Uphold and implement HKUST’s safety policies and ensure compliance with all relevant regulations.
  • Ensure laboratory setups meet required safety and operational standards.
  • Contribute to maintaining high service quality through checklists and quality assurance tasks.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Degree or Higher Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience for Degree holders; minimum 6 years of relevant experience for Higher Diploma holders.
  • Hands-on experience with laboratory equipment and/or laboratory facility workflows is highly preferred.
  • Strong coordination and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in both English and Chinese.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Appointment to the position will normally be on two-year fixed term contract basis. Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits including annual leave, medical and dental benefits will be provided. A gratuity will be payable upon successful completion of contract.
