Join Deliveroo, now part of DoorDash, as a Staff Software Engineer in our London team. You'll help define technical solutions for critical business problems and lead the technical direction for complex, high-scale systems.
Our Engineering teams tackle complex technical challenges across a global marketplace, building and scaling systems that serve millions of customers, riders, and partners every day. We're currently working on projects such as Deliveroo 'Shopping', a non-food retail offering that works with large and small merchants.
In this role, you'll:
- Drive Technical Excellence: Improve code structure and architecture across your team's remit, developing, releasing, and running large-scale web applications whilst transitioning our monolithic codebase to a microservice-based architecture.
- Lead Project Planning: Foresee dependencies and risks, partnering closely with Product and Design to ensure smooth delivery of complex features, whilst defining the backend architecture and tech stack for a product area.
- Optimise Operations: Improve performance, reliability, scalability, and security for our backend systems.
- Collaborate & Influence: Build relationships across global engineering teams to identify collaboration opportunities and influence the wider technical roadmap.
- Mentor & Hire: Support the personal growth of your colleagues through technical guidance and take an active role in conducting engineering interviews to scale our team.
To thrive in this role, you'll need:
- Proficiency in using AI coding tools in the full software development lifecycle.
- Strong Engineering Principles: Pride in writing readable, well-designed, and well-tested software.
- Backend Expertise: Significant experience building web-based applications (using Go, Ruby/Rails, Python, Scala, and Rust).
- Data Proficiency: Practical experience with relational databases and 'NoSQL' backends.
- Systems at Scale: Proven ability to manage web architecture at scale.
- Technical Leadership: Experience breaking down large pieces of work and guiding implementation choices for a team of engineers.
