Description
Shield AI is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the Autonomous Pilot Integration team for expeditionary platforms. The team builds autonomy solutions for V-BAT and X-BAT aircraft, combining capabilities from the Autonomy Capabilities team, Perception team, and HivemindSDK.
As a Senior Software Engineer, you will develop new autonomy capabilities, including mission behaviors, platform-specific control, multi-agent coordination, contingencies, and executive autonomy. You will own major features from software-in-the-loop to live flight testing and partner closely with the Aircraft team, Autonomy Capabilities, Perception, GCS, feature crews, and customer stakeholders.
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing and integrating autonomy software for V-BAT and X-BAT
- Collaborating with the Aircraft team to integrate autonomy capabilities and validate platform interfaces
- Partnering with cross-functional teams to deliver integrated mission capabilities
- Providing technical leadership and mentoring teammates
- Analyzing mission data and driving root-cause analysis
The ideal candidate will have:
- 5+ years of relevant experience in computer science, electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, or mechanical engineering
- Strong C++ development experience in real-time or embedded systems
- Experience with Linux-based development and embedded systems
- Ability to obtain a SECRET clearance
Preferred qualifications include:
- Experience with unmanned aircraft or autonomous systems
- Experience with autonomy software, robotics, or vehicle control
- Python, Docker, CMake/Conan, or CI/CD experience
The salary range for this position is $163,200-244,800 per year.

Travel Requirement
Members of this team typically travel around 10-20% of the year to different office locations, customer sites, operator training events, flight tests, and integration exercises.
