Description
Electronic Arts is seeking a Software Developer to join the Quality Verification team for the Battlefield franchise. As a software developer in the quality, verification, and engineering division, you will report to the engineering lead and contribute to ensuring that our games are stable throughout development.
Responsibilities:
- Design, implement, and maintain artificial intelligence agent systems for automated multiplayer gameplay testing, simulating realistic player behaviour across maps and game modes.
- Create and develop agent behaviour systems, including movement, combat, interaction, and coordination, using a shared hierarchical architecture.
- Collaborate with quality assurance designers and engineers to translate gameplay scenarios into validatable agent behaviours using visual scripting creation tools.
- Establish telemetry processing pipelines to collect detailed data on agent events, enabling downstream analysis, regression testing, and behaviour validation.
- Analyse and resolve agent failures during automated gameplay testing, including edge cases of navigation, network desynchronisation, and complex gameplay system interactions.
- Participate in modernising the architecture by refactoring monolithic systems into composable and maintainable structures, eliminating inter-module duplication.
- Prior experience in machine learning is not required but is considered an asset, as you will participate in exploratory research on AI-generated agent behaviours, including early-stage reinforcement learning experiments.
- Review colleagues' code, provide constructive feedback, and contribute to engineering best practices and shared documentation.
Requirements:
- At least 5 years of software engineering experience with a computer science background.
- Proficiency in C++ is required, and knowledge of game engine internals (entity systems, spatial queries, physics integration) is highly desirable.
- Experience designing or working with artificial intelligence behaviour systems (such as finite state machines, behaviour trees, utility-based systems).
- Experience with automated testing infrastructure, including gameplay testing pipelines, telemetry systems, or regression testing from replayed scenarios, is a significant asset.
- Proven ability to improve the maintainability of complex codebases by extracting abstractions, reducing duplication, and modernising legacy patterns.
- Ideally, you have good knowledge of video game development pipelines and commercial game engines (such as Frostbite, Unreal, or Unity).
- Although prior experience in deploying machine learning models is not required, knowledge of machine learning concepts, particularly reinforcement learning, is considered an asset.
Benefits: Electronic Arts offers a holistic approach to employee benefits programs, focusing on physical, emotional, financial, professional, and community well-being that promotes a balanced life. These programs are designed to meet local needs and may include medical coverage, mental wellness support, retirement savings, paid time off, parental leave, free games, and more.
