Description
We are seeking a Senior Managed Runtime Compiler Engineer to join our Compiler Team. You will improve execution efficiency across interpreters, JIT and AOT compilers, virtual machines, runtimes, libraries, and application stacks.
Responsibilities:
- Partner with a distributed team of compiler and runtime engineers to accelerate workloads on NVIDIA Vera and Vera Rubin systems.
- Analyze execution paths spanning interpreters, bytecode, JIT/AOT compilers, VMs, garbage collection, runtime libraries, and OS interactions.
- Investigate CPU Agentic application stacks, including Python, Node.js, Java, and related frameworks.
- Work with application performance, CPU architecture, compiler, runtime, and product teams to find bottlenecks and deliver measurable speedups.
- Land optimizations in open source projects and internal NVIDIA software stacks.
- Participate in HW/SW co-design from pre-silicon analysis through launch, customer enablement, and production support.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's, Master's, Ph.D. or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
- 5+ years of production software development experience in compilers, language runtimes, virtual machines, interpreters, performance engineering, or related systems software.
- Excellent hands-on C/C++ programming skills and experience working in large production codebases.
- Deep understanding of managed runtime implementation techniques, such as bytecode interpreters, JIT or AOT compilation, profiling, deoptimization, inline caching, garbage collection, runtime libraries, or VM services.
- Hands-on experience analyzing and improving application performance using profilers, tracing, benchmarking, hardware performance counters, or other systematic analysis methods.
- Strong software design fundamentals and the ability to diagnose complex issues and deliver production-quality optimizations.
Preferred qualifications:
- Direct contribution experience with JDK, HotSpot, Graal, OpenJ9, CPython, PyPy, Google V8, Node.js, LLVM, GCC, or another production compiler/runtime project.
- Deep knowledge of Java, Python, JavaScript, or other language runtime internals.
- Experience optimizing workloads on ARM, especially SVE/SVE2, Neon, memory hierarchy, synchronization, or NUMA-sensitive systems.
- Track record of upstream open source contributions, technical leadership, mentoring, or cross-team initiatives.
