Staff Backend Engineer (Ruby), AI Engineering: DAP Repository Flows

GitLab is seeking a Staff Backend Engineer (Ruby) to join the AI Engineering team, specifically the DAP Repository Flows team. The team focuses on DAP onboarding and repository/background flows, which are crucial for delivering AI-powered automation on repositories.

As a Staff Software Engineer, you will set the technical direction for the team, drive complex initiatives, and raise the engineering bar for building agentic experiences on top of the Duo Agent Platform.

Key responsibilities:

• Set and drive the technical direction for the DAP Repository Flows team
• Lead the design and delivery of autonomous and scheduled agents that operate on customer codebases
• Design and refine the DAP onboarding experience
• Partner across teams in the broader DAP organization
• Mentor senior and intermediate engineers
• Identify and resolve complex technical problems

Requirements:

• Deep, hands-on experience with Ruby and Ruby on Rails in production systems
• Demonstrated experience integrating LLMs into products
• Experience building agentic systems
• A track record of designing and shipping complex, high-scale systems
• Strong written communication and the ability to operate effectively in a distributed, async-first environment
