Staff Software Engineer, Experimentation Platform

Discord is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead the development of its next-generation experimentation platform. The successful candidate will design, build, and support core services, data pipelines, configuration tooling, statistical analysis tools, and UX. They will collaborate with stakeholders across the company, influence product telemetry practices, and build high-scale data systems that power internal teams and product features used by millions of users.

Responsibilities:

• Design, build, and support Discord's next-generation experimentation platform
• Collaborate with external stakeholders and customers throughout the company
• Understand and influence product telemetry practices to support experimentation needs
• Use technical expertise to build delightful user experiences and high-scale data systems
• Deliver business results by collaborating with stakeholders across Discord to experiment on features, machine learning models, and more

Requirements:

• 7+ years of experience as a full-stack software engineer
• Experience building internal tools, A/B testing, and statistical frameworks
• Experience with experimentation tooling and building core parts of experimentation platforms from scratch
• Extensive experience leading complex technical projects with successful outcomes
• Built systems with strong data governance controls that respect privacy and security principles
• Proficient in Python and SQL, with experience with Typescript or Rust a plus
• Experience with various datastores, including relational, NoSQL, and data warehouse solutions
• Strong product sense and communication skills
• Track record of developing engineers at multiple levels

Bonus Points:

• Experience building human-in-the-loop AI systems and AI product evaluation
• Experience with cloud-computing platforms such as Google Cloud Platform or AWS
• Experience with modern data processing stacks
• Full-stack development or product engineering experience
• Deep understanding of statistics, data science, or large-scale data processing
