Description

Shield AI is seeking a Reliability Modeling Engineer to lead the reliability model and failure-prediction strategy for the V-BAT unmanned aircraft system. In this role, you will develop the quantitative framework that predicts system failures, identifies causes, and informs design improvements. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive measurable enhancements in system reliability.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain the V-BAT system reliability model, predicting system-level failure rates using field and industry data.
  • Create and manage the V-BAT system fault tree, identifying single points of failure and assessing their impact on overall system reliability.
  • Provide Design-for-Reliability (DfR) guidance in design reviews to eliminate single points of failure and enhance system reliability.
  • Partner with engineers on root cause investigations for field failures and implement corrective actions.
  • Lead reliability test campaigns to verify system reliability requirements and update the model with results.
  • Drive production reliability screening campaigns to minimize infant-mortality failures.
  • Establish and track reliability metrics, including MTBF, failure-rate trends, and reliability growth.

Required qualifications:

  • B.S. in Engineering, Mathematics, or Statistics.
  • 5+ years of experience in reliability or surety engineering in high-consequence industries (defense, aerospace, automotive, or medical device).
  • Expertise in Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Failure Modes, Effects, and Criticality Analysis (FMECA), and Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF) calculations.
  • Proven ability to build reliability models from field and test data.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with Reliability, Availability, and Maintainability (RAM) modeling and Weibull analysis.
  • Familiarity with reliability analysis software such as Relyence.
  • Knowledge of government standards for reliability and maintainability models, such as MIL-HDBK-217.
  • Experience implementing FRACAS and supporting Failure Review Boards.
  • CRE (ASQ Certified Reliability Engineer) certification.
  • Experience with unmanned aircraft or mission-critical hardware systems.

Additional Information:

  • Full-time regular employee offer package: Pay within range listed + Bonus + Benefits + Equity.
  • Temporary employee offer package: Pay within range listed + temporary benefits package (applicable after 60 days of employment).
