Description

A permanent position for a Dental Therapist working in an award-winning special care community dental service is available at Hertfordshire Community NHS Trust. The service is looking for a full-time or part-time therapist (minimum 30 hours per week) to work at the dental department in our Hatfield clinic with some additional outreach work across Hertfordshire.

The post will include both routine and complex dental therapist care. There is also the possibility for some oral public health work supporting pop-up clinics and toothbrushing initiatives within areas of high deprivation.

The successful candidate will be based at our brand-new dental clinic within Hatfield, which has excellent facilities and offers consultant-led special care dentistry for a variety of special needs children, anxious children, and adults.

The Hertfordshire Special Care Dental Service was awarded 'outstanding' in their last CQC inspection, and the HCT communications team won the NHS Elect national award for exemplary patient experience in 2019.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide oral health care to priority groups, including people with learning disabilities, physical difficulties/disabilities, mental health problems, medically compromised, homeless patients, and other priority groups agreed with the commissioners.
  • Manage own case load and provide treatment under conscious sedation and general anaesthesia.
  • Work independently, reliably, and consistently, with good organisational skills and an ability to manage own workload.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to empathise with patients.

Requirements:

  • A BSC degree or Diploma in Dental Therapy or equivalent qualification/training and experience.
  • Registered with the GDC.
  • Significant post-degree and/or diploma/degree experience of working as a Dental Therapist and managing own case load.
  • Experience of planning and managing arrangements for delivery of oral hygiene and dental care to a large group of adult patients.
  • Experience in the care of patients requiring special care dentistry or Paediatrics, including treatment under conscious sedation and general anaesthesia.

Benefits:

  • Competitive salary: £49,387 to £56,515 per annum pro-rata.
