As a RN Clinical Nurse II in Obstetrics, you will provide competent clinical nursing care consistent with professional standards. You will report and be accountable to the Nurse Manager/Director, and be responsible for coordinating and delivering patient care utilizing the nursing process in a hospital setting.
The Mother baby nurses provide care to our mother/baby dyad. Nurses assist with breastfeeding, routine post-partum care of the mom and normal newborn care. The unit consists of 25 beds across two campuses. The support person is encouraged to stay with Mom and baby to promote bonding and family centred care.
Responsibilities:
- Participate in identifying and meeting learning needs of self, attend education programs based on identified learning needs, and use patient education materials relevant to patient population.
- Identify expected patient outcomes, seek guidance as needed in revision of plan of care, and participate in discussion with members of the interdisciplinary team in evaluation of patient care.
- Demonstrate competence in care of patients with complex problems, perform bedside point of care testing as required for patient care plan, and utilise healthcare organisation and nursing standards, policies and procedures in delivery of care.
- Develop goals to promote professional growth or minimise limitations, achieve goals and objectives within identified time frame, and participate in development and achievement of unit goals and performance improvement activities.
- Recognise data from complex situations to determine priorities for care, synthesise assessment data into meaningful whole prior to communication to others, and assess and anticipate discharge needs of individual patients and families.
- Collaborate with patient/family to prepare or update the plan of care, make use of available multidisciplinary resources in planning care, and identify and address cultural and ethnic issues in planning patient care.
- Read journals that contain studies or articles that may be applicable to practice, and bring ideas and questions to the staff at large for assessment of applicability.
Education Requirements:
- Graduation from a school of professional nursing.
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
- Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of North Carolina.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification.
Professional Experience Requirements:
- One (1) year of nursing experience.
