Job Overview

As a Staff+ Software Engineer in the Safeguards Data team at Anthropic, you will build and operate data platforms that power critical safety features. Your work will have real consequences for customers and individuals affected by model misuse. You will focus on correctness, data retention, and access control, designing systems for portability across various environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain the data platform for Safeguards, including data ingestion and processing pipelines, warehouses, and interfaces for detection and review systems.
  • Ensure high operational standards for Safeguards systems, minimizing manual effort and serving both safety and customer needs.
  • Oversee data governance and integrity, implementing retention and access controls, privacy measures, and correctness guarantees.
  • Design portable systems across cloud providers, considering customer-managed and third-party environments.
  • Collaborate with analysts, investigators, and researchers to build internal tooling for their work.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in Python and SQL.
  • Experience building and operating data pipelines or data stores in production.
  • Ability to work across the data stack, including ingestion, storage, and consumption.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Extensive experience as a software engineer, particularly with data-intensive systems.
  • Background in integrity, spam, fraud, or abuse detection and mitigation.
  • Experience with trust and safety detection and intervention mechanisms for AI or machine learning systems.
  • Large-scale distributed data infrastructure experience.
  • Multi-cloud provider experience or infrastructure designed for provider-agnostic use.
  • Experience with data governance in regulated or high-sensitivity domains.
  • History of working closely with operational teams to build custom internal tooling.
