Description

At Pinterest, we're on a mission to bring everyone the inspiration to create a life they love.

We're looking for Data Science interns to help evolve and shape the future of our product -- inspiring Pinners and connecting them with actionable content, understanding advertisers and measuring the value Pinterest provides to them, and enabling our employees to evaluate potential product changes faster than ever before.

You'll apply quantitative analysis, statistical techniques, modeling, and data mining while working cross-functionally with engineering and product partners.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to our product roadmap and mission using data and exploratory analysis to understand user behavior and trends, and identify opportunities for product innovation.
  • Design and implement core metrics that guide the team efforts and help design and evaluate A/B experiments that drive these metrics.
  • Explore alternative experimentation techniques to help internal teams evaluate their ideas faster.
  • Work cross-functionally to build and communicate key insights, and collaborate closely with product managers, engineers, designers, and researchers to help build the next experiences on Pinterest.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a Master’s degree in statistics, mathematics, economics, applied sciences, computer science, or a related field.
  • Ability to manipulate large data sets with high dimensionality and complexity; fluency in SQL and a scripting language (Python or R).
  • Experience solving analytical problems using quantitative approaches, including in the fields of Machine Learning, Statistical Modeling, Forecasting, Econometrics, or other related fields.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain learnings to both technical and non-technical partners.
  • Ability to connect data analysis to real business problems, in order to impact business performance.
  • Strong critical thinking when working with AI-generated suggestions, with a clear approach to validating correctness, performance, security, and maintainability.
  • Comfort iterating on prompts, refining workflows, and adapting AI-assisted approaches based on the problem, context, and constraints.

Internship Details

  • 12-week paid internship with fixed start dates in May or June.
  • Locations: San Francisco, Palo Alto, New York, or Seattle offices.
  • Salary: $11,000 monthly.
