Automation Engineer

We are seeking an Automation Engineer to join our Gene R&D department at our Piscataway site.

As an Automation Engineer, you will develop new automation workflows to meet high-throughput biomanufacturing needs, maintain and upgrade existing automation methods, and provide hands-on support for lab instruments and automation systems.

Responsibilities:

• Develop new automation workflows for high-throughput biomanufacturing
• Maintain and upgrade existing automation methods
• Provide hands-on support, troubleshooting, and maintenance for lab instruments and automation systems
• Diagnose and resolve complex mechanical, software, and system integration issues
• Manage project timelines and leverage internal resources
• Communicate closely with other teams for smooth tech transfer

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering, or related fields
• 1+ year of experience in automation development in biomanufacturing
• Experience with laboratory instrumentation and automation systems
• Excellent communication and organization skills
• Experience troubleshooting liquid handling instruments such as Tecan Fluent, Hamilton STAR
• Extensive experience writing scripts/protocols for Tecan, Hamilton, Thermo Momentum Scheduler
• Experience with molecular biology experiments is a plus

Preferred Qualifications:

• Basic understanding of equipment communication, networking, TCP/IP, serial communication, or automation software
• Basic programming or scripting experience
• Experience in biotechnology, pharmaceutical, laboratory, or regulated manufacturing environments

Compensation: $70,000 - $90,000 per year, depending on experience and qualification
