Forward Deployed Engineer

GitLab is seeking a Staff Forward Deployed Engineer to work at the intersection of customer outcomes, product direction, and hands-on engineering. This role focuses on strategic accounts in the AMER region, helping customers adopt GitLab and the GitLab Duo Agent Platform in complex enterprise environments.

The ideal candidate will conduct deep technical discovery, lead architecture and delivery design, partner with customer stakeholders, design and build proofs and prototypes, architect self-managed and enterprise deployments, turn recurring field patterns into reusable assets, contribute code and technical designs, and travel as needed for strategic customer engagements.

Responsibilities:

• Conduct deep technical discovery in selected strategic accounts
• Lead architecture and delivery design for complex enterprise environments
• Partner with customer stakeholders and GitLab account teams
• Design and build bounded proofs, prototypes, deployment patterns, and reusable accelerators
• Architect self-managed and enterprise deployments
• Turn recurring field patterns into reusable assets
• Contribute code, technical designs, or architecture changes
• Travel as needed for strategic customer engagements

Requirements:

• Experience in software engineering, platform architecture, forward deployed engineering, technical consulting, or similar customer-facing engineering roles
• Strong software engineering fundamentals
• Strong systems design and software architecture skills
• Hands-on experience with GitLab CI/CD, pipeline design, YAML, runners, and GitLab APIs
• Experience with infrastructure as code and enterprise deployment tooling
• Working knowledge of large language models, agentic patterns, tool orchestration, and AI systems
• A track record of creating reusable technical assets and strong written and verbal communication skills
