Description
Anthropic's mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems that are safe and beneficial for users and society.
The Security Labs team is a scrappy and ambitious group that focuses on high-risk, high-expected-value security projects. The team's goal is to find breakthroughs in security, particularly in areas related to frontier AI, which is expected to be among the most consequential and adversarially-targeted technology in the world.
The ideal candidate is a strong software engineer with rare depth in areas such as firmware or hardware security, applied cryptography, OS/kernel/hypervisor internals, formal methods, reverse engineering, or high-assurance and cross-domain systems. The candidate should have built things under their own direction, be comfortable jumping layers when the problem demands it, and be willing to take risks.
Key responsibilities include:
- Owning Security Labs projects end-to-end, scoping bets, building prototypes, running them against real workloads, and handing them off or documenting exits
- Standing up novel security infrastructure quickly, optimizing for learning rather than permanence
- Finding receiving teams early, bringing them along while building, and handing them something they want to own
- Working embedded with research and infrastructure teams to test workflows and document where they don't survive proposed changes
- Turning experimental results into short write-ups that shape Anthropic's long-term security architecture and into costed contingency plans
- Helping pick the next round of bets and influencing the industry to improve
The annual compensation range for this role is $320,000-$485,000 USD.
Benefits include competitive compensation, optional equity donation matching, generous vacation and parental leave, flexible working hours, and a lovely office space.
