Specialist Nurse (ICVD)

Description

The Inherited Cardiovascular Diseases team (ICVD) at Great Ormond Street Hospital is looking for a motivated, experienced, and enthusiastic nurse to join our team.

The ICVD Team manages an increasing caseload of children and young people who are affected by inherited cardiomyopathies, inherited arrhythmias, and inherited aortopathies. As well as managing a caseload of diagnosed patients, we also run a screening program for patients who are at high risk due to their family history. The majority of our workload is outpatient-based with clinics running daily; we also support our patients at home, in the community, and during inpatient admissions. You will help to co-ordinate and oversee clinics and will collate detailed family health histories through consultation with families and liaison with external health services. We support the whole family through the process of screening, diagnosis, and on-going care.

You will work within a specialist multidisciplinary team consisting of specialist nurses, cardiologists, clinician's assistants, clinical psychologists, geneticists, and administrative staff. They will also work closely with the electrophysiology, ECG, echo, and MRI departments.

This post is currently being advertised as a one-year fixed term contract at a band 6 level with potential for applicants to apply for a band 7 post within the team at the end of this year. We would therefore welcome applications from experienced cardiac nurses currently working at a band 6 level.

Main duties of the job

  • To support the provision of effective communication between all members of the multidisciplinary team, other hospital departments, relatives, and visitors.
  • To ensure quality care is given, by being familiar with agreed Trust standards of care and to inform seniors if the required standard cannot be reached.
  • To actively assist in the education and practical training of ward nursing staff, through formal and informal teaching.
  • To participate in the audit of the clinical learning environment.
  • To maintain confidentiality always surrounding the child's admission and treatment.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary: £47,951 to £56,863 per annum.
  • Fixed term contract for 12 months.
  • Opportunities for professional development and growth.
