Software Backend Architect

We are looking for a Software Backend Architect to join our team at Okta, a company that secures AI by building the trusted, neutral infrastructure that enables organizations to safely embrace this new era.

As a Software Backend Architect, you will play a pivotal role in shaping next-generation identity and security architectures, solving complex, high-impact technical challenges, defining long-term product strategy, and elevating our engineering standards while navigating a fast-moving cybersecurity landscape.

Responsibilities:

• Design and develop enterprise software using Java with Springboot
• Lead technical projects involving 20+ engineers across multiple workstreams
• Drive technical strategy and mentor other engineers
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver on a shared vision
• Build, design solutions, and maintain our platform for scale

Requirements:

• Strong hands-on experience designing & developing enterprise software using Java with Springboot
• Deep understanding of object-oriented programming principles, design patterns, server-side technologies and distributed system concepts
• Strong experience working with relational databases, ideally MySQL, PostgreSQL or GraphDB
• Skilled in debugging and troubleshooting complex java codebase
• Passionate about writing clean, maintainable and scalable code with a deep focus on security
• Solid experience with cloud infrastructure platforms particularly AWS and GCP
• Proven experience with Agile methodologies (Scrum/Kanban), CI/CD pipelines, and automation tools
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and proven ability to work with cross-functional stakeholders across multiple geo-locations

Nice to have:

• Strong understanding of IAM protocols and identity management best practices
• Knowledge of cybersecurity principles, secure coding practices, and certifications like CISSP or Security+
• Some experience with javascript frameworks and basic UI development
• Prior experience building teams from ground-up

Education and Training:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience
• 18+ years of software development experience, with at least 12+ years of experience designing and building enterprise grade software using Java at scale
